Hi Alex,
thank you. You might be interested to see that I lost my blog over the weekend because I had missing backups I didn't even know I needed. Talking about irony here.

I do my backups now to two external HDs. Usually when I update important files such as my niche files which contains login, sites, stages etc. Loosing that would be a nightmare and I'm not taking any chances at all.

My computer is also playing up and I want to be sure. For email I switched to IMAP in Google and forward all my mails to that. I make an effort to synchronize my local inbox with my IMAP account daily so if my computer dies I have all email still up to date.

backup - how about backing up the entire drive, programs and all - how is that done on a continuous basis? I install updates and sometimes a new program - I'd hate to lose any of it because some came to me via downloads.

Really important post! Years ago I went through a hard drive crash one month after I bought a new computer!

The computer guy who fixed it told me of a lady who lost a thesis in a hard drive crash that she spent 8 years writing!

Nowadays I have online back up - Carbonite and I know it works well coz my laptop crashed and I restored my carbonite backup to my new computer and it all seemed fine.

Right now my computer is making periodic noises rather like a Grandfather clock which have me slightly worried...

Yes I have my trusty Carbonite but I think I'd like a hard drive solution too.

I did have an external hard drive designed to do back ups but I found it very difficult to use which means that it does not get used.

I'd be interested to know a bit more about how you do your back ups

All The Best
