How to Use WordPress to Mimic a Static Site Instead of a Blog

Thanks to WordPress, creating websites is now easier than it ever has been. This state-of-the-art blogging platform is user-friendly, it’s free and it has so many plugins available for it that it is extremely customisable. But what if you don’t want a blog? Can you use the platform to create a static site? Of course! With a platform like WordPress, there’s not much you can’t do.

Blogging

When WordPress first came out, it was a blogging platform, nothing more, nothing less. However, there have been many changes and improvements to it that you can now do so much more with it. One of the things you can do is create static websites.

If you aren’t convinced, start looking around the WordPress showcase and you’ll see a whole group of websites that are created using the platform that you’d never suspect it. Government sites, magazine sites and even online communities have all been created using this revolutionary website platform. So how do you create a static site now that we know it’s possible?

Creating a Static Page

When you want to create a static page, install WordPress as you normally would. That doesn’t change. What does change is the way you handle the pages and posts once you have everything set up. If you want a static page as your homepage, you will need to go to Settings menu and then click the Reading tab. This is where you can select which page you would like to use as your homepage.

Now, this is where things may get a little tricky. The next step in making your website a static site depends on what sort of site you are looking to create. Do you want an e-commerce site, an informational site, or do you want a membership site? The reason this matters is because you will have to upload and install the various plugins that allow those functions to exist.

Plugins

No matter what type of static page you want to create, there is a plugin just for you. WordPress makes it very easy to search for an install plugins directly from the site. The problem is that there are so many of them that it can be hard to determine which ones are worthy of your precious website.

To remedy this, use Google and try to find out what others are saying about the plugin in question. It should be noted that when you search for plugins within the platform, you can typically view ratings and reviews for that plugin. But a search for the best plugins using your favourite search engine will usually yield better results.

So that’s all there is to it. If you want to create a static page using WordPress, just set your homepage and then start installing the proper plugins.

Each of the plugins will have instructions on how to use them properly so you won’t require much technical knowledge in most cases. You can just set your site up and go, and that’s why so many people choose this platform for their website creation needs.
