Lesson 1: Choosing The Best Niche For Your Business

It’s a tough market, and when you’re new to all of this online mastery stuff, it can be a bit overwhelming. I know it certainly was when I started out... so I truly do understand. That’s exactly why I have created this course to help you.

You hear it all the time: “Content is King!” and it’s the truth. So... how do you build an awesome niche content site that’s also going to prove to be profitable for you?

  • First, the niche MUST be one that’s in demand, and one that’s full of hungry, passionate, avid followers who actively keep up with it, talk about it, and yes, some even dream about it. That’s exactly the kind of niche you want.

Sure, there may be tons of niche sites already ‘out there’ on the net, but yours can be the BEST if you really work hard getting it established and done right in the first place. It’s a lot easier to build a house using a blueprint than to just start blindly hammering. The same goes for building a quality website.

OK, we’ve established you must have a niche that’s in demand. Next, you need to figure out what you’re going to use for ‘bait’ to get tons of visitors to come see it! Without web traffic, any site is dead in the water. Without that vital component, you will not make enough profit to even pay your web host. Not good.

    So, what do you do?

  • Do Keyword Research – researching keywords and key phrases is your golden pass to finding out exactly what people are craving. You want to know what people are looking for, and give it to them. I know it sounds too simple, but believe me... it’s the truth.

And how do you do this kind of research? I prefer using some awesome free tools I have found to be very useful over time. One of them is Google's free keyword research tool, and another: Wordtracker's free keyword tool.

If you prefer one that you can download and use from your desktop, Good Keywords is excellent, too. Good Keywords will actually brainstorm a list of keyword phrases based on a single key word or a key phrase you type in. Good Keywords will also show you how many times the keyword term has been searched for.

All that’s missing is the supply numbers. You can always do this manually by going to a search engine and typing in the keyword phrase and then noting down how many the total search results are. Remember that you should just do this using just one search engine, so that your numbers are not skewed.

You also want to note how much competition you have, because if you don’t have any, likely your niche won’t be very profitable. You WANT competition! Then your goal is to make your site infinitely better than the others.

  • If you don’t have time or desire to do all that researching, then you should give WordTracker a go. WordTracker will also do a lateral search, i.e. a search for terms that are related to your keyword but are not included in the term you supplied.

They have a free trial version that you can play around with. And if you need more keywords than the free trial has to offer, a 1-day subscription to WordTracker is only $7.96. I’ve subscribed to the one-day subscription a couple of times and each time I have received more than my 1-day allotment.

If you have a niche with straightforward keywords, then WordTracker is more than enough to find heaps of profitable keywords you can base your content on. I have, however, experienced niches where I just can’t seem to figure out what keywords my target audience would use.

There are literally thousands of ways a person can type in a string of words to find you. I have come across times when I get lots of traffic but conversion rates (sales) are dismal. The trick is also sometimes, related to knowing how people search. Some words suggest that they’re after free information and other words suggest that they’re actually in a buying mode.

There’s probably a course out there somewhere that will teach you all this (provided you have the time and patience) but an easier way that I’ve chosen is just to hire people who have experience in this area. In particular, I am referring to the Keyword Research Report by SEO Research labs. I think their fees are reasonable, below $100. And it saves a lot of time and brainpower. That’s worth a lot!

Happy Hunting... and next we’re going to cover the elements of your website design, which IS important... and often neglected. I’m going to break it down into bite-sized chunks you can easily grasp and put to work.

After all, this is all about earning a living online and not having to break your back in the process! You’re going to learn all the basics, and the ‘whys’ behind them, so you can get going building your website beautifully, right from the very beginning.
