Installing WordPress

There are essentially two ways you can install WordPress: 1) Via Cpanel 2) Manually. If you've been wanting to learn how to install scripts, WordPress has got to be one of the easiest scripts to install, so you may want to give the manual way a go.

Installing WordPress via Cpanel

The easiest way to install WordPress yourself is to do it through your Cpanel. What is Cpanel? Cpanel is a system used by some web hosts to provide their customers with an easy interface to manage their hosting account.

Most good Cpanel based webhosts are enabled with Fantastico which allows for easy installation of various scripts including WordPress. If you're not sure whether your web host provides this feature ... ask them. If they do, great! If they don't ... change web host. Believe me, you won't regret it.

One quick way to check if you have Cpanel, is to go to http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel. If you are prompted for your username and password, chances are you are signed up with a Cpanel based web host.

If you web host did not change the default theme of the Cpanel interface, you will see the following:

But since Cpanel comes with many themes (skins) it could also look like:

Installing WordPress Manually

This lesson is optional. You don't have to learn how to install WordPress manually. But if you are interested in script installations in general, I highly recommend you to do this tutorial. I believe that WordPress has got to be the easiest script to install. If you can't install WordPress, that's probably a sign that you should stay away from script installations. Period.
