A large part of keeping a blog online is to make a statement; this could be about you as a person, about your business services and products, or even about some of your views.
Blogs are living, breathing platforms – when you update it, it gets a new breath of life, when you don’t, it dies a slow death.

Your Online Calling Card

You don’t have to be a business person to show the world what you are made of. Your blog can be a great tool to showcase your abilities, your likes, and your dislikes. Regardless whether you are budget-conscious, or loaded with money – you can make a strong statement with the help of:

  • Colors
  • Design
  • Content
  • Pictures
  • Video

How to Colorize Your Blog

A lot of new bloggers (or even old-timers) are unsure as to which color scheme to choose for their blog. When I design blogs for clients I usually ask them whether they have a specific vision in mind.

Often they reply with a clear and resounding YES. I’m sure that when you first thought of launching a blog you had a visual hunch, a picture that depicted your blog to look like “something.” Can you remember that “something” still, or have you forgotten your vision already?

Tastes change, visions expand, and new ideas will most likely drive you off the initial track. That’s perfectly fine. The great thing about blogs is that they can easily be re-designed with the help of the thousands of wonderful themes available online. With the click of your mouse you can install a new theme in seconds, giving your blog a new lease of life.

My suggestions is to take two colors that work well together and use them as your design inspiration. You don’t want to have a loud-looking blog. Aim for an understated look and keep things simple.

The Design Aspect

How easy do you want it to be for your readers to navigate your site? Asking yourself this question will take care of the rest of your blog design. The worst thing you can do is to clutter your blog with flashing animation. Eek!

Publish content that Rocks!

Well-written content will always win. I wonder how long autoblogs will stick around? I’m tempted to say “not for long” because these auto-generated blogs are rubbish. They might work in the short term, but long term they don’t.

Good, quality content will ALWAYS outlast crap.

A Picture Speaks a Thousand Words

You know that, right? By placing pictures in your blog posts you will strenghten your core message. Since many readers navigate the Internet on the fly it is more important than ever to help them save time. When you add pictures to your blog you do just that, because it either attracts or repels the reader when he stops by.

Video is King

Take a look at any of the video sites if you don’t believe me. Video has quietly taken over the Web in the last couple of years. Today, a video is often favored over text – not by everyone mind you, but by many.

A video blog could be a great sales tool to brand your business online. Alternatively it can also be a fabulous entertainer if you have a face for video. People have this thing for watching others. Must be some “Big Brother” gene.

What DOES Your Blog Say About You?

You tell me…

Rock on!
